A voice of reason!

Jack Nicklaus held court for nearly two hours on Wednesday at the Memorial Tournament, which he hosts every year at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He spoke on many topics, but the one quote that stood out was about Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia, and it was very terse.

"The Sergio-Tiger thing is stupid," he said according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard.

That's it. No more commentary. No deep pontification on the racial implications of Garcia's statement in foreign countries or on U.S. turf. No picking sides.

He just called it what it is -- stupid. He's right, too -- though I have to admit I was enjoying it quite thoroughly until the "fried chicken" comment by Garcia.

Leave it to golf's greatest to sum up the most buzzy story all year in six words.
