Sergio Garcia was all over the course Thursday -- literally, figuratively, in every way you can possibly imagine.

Somehow (I have no idea how) Garcia shot a 3-over 73 in the first round of the US Open at Merion that included a double-bogey, a quadruple-bogey, an eagle, and every other colorful score you can imagine.

He was an ace and a seven from putting up every number between 1-8 for his round:

And it wasn't only the course that challenged Garcia throughout his round. Dan Hicks of NBC reported Garcia was taunted by some fans and police asked him if he wanted the fans removed from the course. Garcia declined, saying, "No, it would make it worse."

He's probably right.

But good on Garcia for fighting against a tough round and putting himself right in the thick of things (Phil Mickelson's 3 under led the championship when Garcia finished).

If Garcia could contend this weekend the story would be, well I don't know if it would be good, but it would be some of the greatest theater we could ever ask for.
