How about this stat?
There were only five golfers under par for the first round of the 2013 US Open, which is the fewest we've had at the first round of a US Open since two golfers were under par at Oakmont in 2007.
Here are the five from this year:
And the two from 2007 at Oakmont:
Angel Cabrera: 1 under
In 2012 there were six men under par after the first round. In 2011 there were 21, in 2010 there were nine, in 2009 there were 13, and in 2008 there were 11.
I think this course is only going to get tougher as the week goes on. I could honestly see even or 1 over winning the tournament just like it did last year.
Those single-round 62s and double-digits under par many analysts were predicting feel a world away at this point.
Merion is roaring.
Good luck, guys.
