Charley Hoffman breaks tooth, shoots 28 on nine holes

Charley Hoffman might consider going full dentures after his play on Thursday.

Hoffman -- who, according to Brian Wacker of the PGA Tour, broke a tooth at the Players Championship earlier this year -- re-broke the tooth at the Travelers Championship on Thursday en route to a 28 on the back nine and a first-round 9-under-par 61.

Here's a look at his absurd scorecard:

His 28 was one off the nine-hole par-35 record of 27 on the PGA Tour. Here's a look at that list:

Mike Souchak, back nine, first round, 1955 Texas Open (par 35)
Nick Watney, back nine, third round, 2011 AT&T National (par 35)

That's it. Two guys. There have been others who have shot 27 (and one 26). But one was on a par 34, and the others were on par 36s.

Hoffman finished second at the Travelers Championship in 2012 after playing the last two holes at 3 over to lose to Marc Leishman by one stroke.

The 61 is his career-best score.

Wonder if he'll get that tooth fixed before the weekend.
