$10,000 worth of alcohol stolen from US Open

The USGA missed out on millions of dollars by hosting this year's US Open at a tiny venue like Merion Golf Club, but they also lost $10,000 last Tuesday shortly after the tournament ended.

According to this report by Philly.com, "Thieves made off with thousands of dollars of liquor left over from the US Open that was left on Haverford College's campus."

Haverford College is 400 yards from the No. 18 hole at Merion.

The USGA was keeping alcohol there because it was the site of the "Trophy Club," which is one of those exclusive hoity-toity tents with a bar in which pretentiousness flows harder than the alcohol itself.

An unfortunate situation for the USGA, for sure. Beer, wine and liquor were likely all taken from the tent.

I'm sorry to state the obvious here, but if you put thousands of dollars worth of alcohol anywhere within five miles of a college campus, shouldn't you maybe hire a little extra security?
