Paul Casey punctuates comeback win at Irish Open with 50-foot eagle

By Kyle Porter | Golf Writer

He didn't need it, but how great was Paul Casey's 50-foot eagle finish to win the Irish Open on Sunday?

Casey, who hadn't won a pro tournament since 2011, finished three shots clear of Joost Luiten and Robert Rock on Sunday, which meant he really only needed a par on that 72nd hole. An eagle it was, though, and a fired up Casey talked after the tournament about how important the win was to him.

"I love playing in Ireland, I always have," he said. "The Irish Open has great history -- just looking at Seve's name on the trophy. We've had some interesting weather but they've turned out as Irish fans always do and I love playing in front of Irish crowds, I'm looking forward to coming back.”

Jeff Sherman of GolfOdds.com said on Twitter that with the win, Casey's British Open odds dropped from 100-1 to 60-1.
