The 2013 British Open odds have been updated, and Tiger Woods is making a move he's become acustomed to of late -- falling down the board in a major championship.
This time last week Woods was the 13-2 favorite to win the British Open, but this week he's only 8-1. Pretty interesting when you compare that to his 9-2 odds at the US Open and 3-1 at the Masters.
I think Tiger is a pretty good value at 8-1 because I think he's going to be right in the mix on the weekend, but maybe oddsmakers are wary of that potentially balky elbow. Or maybe people just weren't betting him and oddsmakers are trying to stir up the action.
Either way it's something to keep an eye on between now and Thursday.
Here are the top 17 favorites (all numbers courtesy of Bovada):
Tiger Woods -- 8-1
The 'we don't know what to do with them' group
The long-ish shots
Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker at 40-1 is amazing value right now -- both were at 33-1 at this time last week, and I'm not totally sure what's changed other than maybe people weren't betting them.
Also, Phil Mickelson went from 25-1 to 18-1 following his Scottish Open win. And Rory McIlroy continues to tumble. He opened at 12-1, was 18-1 last week, and is now at 25-1. That's pretty good value if you believe in McIlroy's streakiness like I do.
