Phil Mickelson joined the Dan Patrick Show on Friday morning to chat about his 2013 British Open win at Muirfield.

Mickelson was his usual candid self and pretty hilarious (sometimes unintentionally) per the usual. Here are a few of the better quotes:

On Patrick having Mickelson's caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay on the show earlier this week:

"First of all, I love playing second fiddle to my man, Bones. Thanks for getting the offer to him first to be on your show."

On how important the Britsih Open win was:

"It was one of the most emotional weeks and most emotional days for us. It was the biggest accomplishment of my career. It took me a couple of decades to come out on top."

On his tee shots:

"Not carrying a driver and taking the temptation to hit driver out of my head re-trained my thought process of 'look, I'm just trying to get the ball in the fairway'."

On whether or not he knew he won when he hit his birdie putt on No. 18:

"Oh yeah, absolutely. Had I two-putted I would have acted like it wasn't over but I knew that it was but when it went in, I knew it was over. When I played the 18th hole I knew if I made par I was going to win the British Open. I knew that was a done deal."

On where the Claret Jut is:

"Right by my side, what kind of question is that?"

On his new 3-wood:

"It's changed my game more than any other club than the 60-degree wedge. Math and science is a huge part of my success."

He also told a crazy paleontology story. Really, he did. And an unreal Bones story from his college math class.
