It was a pretty great major season, wasn't it?
The Angel Cabrera-Adam Scott shootout at Augusta, the Justin Rose four-iron at Merion, Phil takes down Muirfield, and now Jason Dufner etches his name on the trophy he thought he'd have two years ago.
We were treated to four really great major championships -- none of them a true classic but not a dud among the bunch either.
Dufner and Jim Furyk gave us another heart-stopping battle for most of 18 holes at Oak Hill on Sunday. The final two holes were less than thrilling (four bogeys combined) but until then each golfer had his foot on the gas.
It's a bummer that we put 16 rounds of major golf in the books so quickly but with the FedEx Cup on the horizon and player of the year honors still very much up for grabs the season is far from over.
And hey, we're only 242 days from the 2014 Masters (wait, that's kind of a lot).
Here are our grades for the PGA Championship:
|A||Jason Dufner played like a man on Sunday for 16 holes. Those last two bogeys were a little shaky but the trophy was more than in the bag. Apparently 63s early in the week help you win tournaments.|
|A||No shame for Jim Furyk -- this definitely wasn't a repeat of the 2012 US Open. He flailed a little at the end too (two pars instead of two bogeys would have gotten him in a playoff) but No. 17 and No. 18 were playing ridiculously tough all day. Good outing for Mr. 5-Hour Energy.|
|A||Oh so close for Henrik Stenson. The man I picked came undone when his ball landed in a filled divot on No. 14 and he flubbed the chip. His second straight top three at a major.|
|B||A triple bogey did Rory McIlroy in early on Sunday. The T8 was a great effort from the defending champion though and a great way to end a tumultuous major season.|
|B||I thought Jason Day was going to bring the house down for a while as he had it to 6 under through 13 holes. He finished bogey-bogey-bogey though but still nabbed his third top 10 at a major this season.|
|B||Dustin Johnson went 65-69 on the weekend and was one of only three golfers to break par on both Saturday and Sunday. Impressive performance -- he'll get his soon.|
|D||Tiger Woods finished T40 which means his four major finishes were T4, T32, T6, and T40. Not going to get it done for Tiger.|
|F||I usually don't hand out "F" to golfers who make the cut but my goodness, Phil Mickelson. Lefty went 78-72 on Saturday and Sunday to finish third to last. Not the way he drew it up.|
