The PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup are headed to Bethpage Black in Long Island, NY – a longtime favorite course of Phil MickelsonGolfweek magazine reported.

The Tour championship will appear at the public course in 2019 while the Ryder Cup will make its way to the course in 2024.

PGA of America President Ted Bishop all but confirmed the reports when he apparently smiled and said the deal was “very close,” to the AP.

“Bethpage Black is very much on our radar screen. The PGA is highly interested in having a Ryder Cup and a PGA Championship there,” he said. “We feel it's a golf course that's worthy of both.”

Bethpage Black hosted both the 2002 U.S. Open, where Tiger Woods held off Mickelson over the back nine, and the 2009 U.S. Open, won by Lucas Glover. Mickelson finished second in both instances.

Despite his fortunes, Mickelson was a huge proponent of holding major championships on the Long Island course.

Speaking of the potential for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage, Mickelson called it an “incredible idea,” at last week's PGA Championships.

“I love it. I've been quietly hoping it would go there for years. It's a perfect site,” he said.

Perhaps Phil might have a small interest in captaining the 2024 team?
