Even Kevin Chappell was impressed with what Kevin Chappell did on Saturday afternoon at The Barclays. After his round Chappell said "Here, in the wind, if you would've told me someone was going to shoot a 62 today, I would've laughed at them."
But it was a course-record 62 indeed Chappell shot as he rocketed up the leaderboard towards first place in the FedEx Cup points race. It included a pretty sweet little 30 on the front nine (Chappell's back nine on the day as he started on hole No. 10).
His first nine holes were pretty decent as he played them in 3 under par but he went crazy on the second nine with four straight birdies at one point and no bogeys on the day.
Here's a look at his scorecard:
The 62 is Chappell's second of the year as he also pulled the feat off earlier in the season at the Humana Challenge.
Chappell hasn't had much of a year with only three top 10 appearances on the season but he has a chance to change all that with a win at The Barclays and a blast into the top 10 of the FedEx Cup rankings.
He knows grinding out rounds will eventually become fruitful as he trailed by just one at the time he finished.
"My game hadn't shown much lately, but I've been working hard," said Chappell. "It paid off today."
I'd say so.
