Tiger Woods is still very much in contention at The Barclays after a third-round 2-under 69 on Saturday afternoon. Woods had a somewhat messy front nine but recovered nicely with a back-nine 32.

Woods made five birdies overall and three on tha back nine including this 11-foot putt on No. 18:

At the time he finished his round Woods only trailed three golfers which means the chances he plays in one of the final two or three groups on Sunday afternoon are prtty high.

Woods again nursed what seemed to be faulty back throughout the day on Saturday. He pulled at his lower back all day and again looked to be in pain when reaching into the cup to grab his made putts.

It's been a weird week for Woods, too. It started with that errant bed on Tuesday that got his back off on the wrong foot (so to speak) and this is a tournament he hasn't exactly dominated and yet it feels totally feasible for him to shoot a 65 on Sunday for an easy win.

A win which would be his sixth of the season, and a win that would likely lock up player of the year honors for Woods who has won the award 10 times.

Sunday will be a test of his back holding up and his putter closing the deal. He isn't known for coming from behind but he'll have to with Kevin Chappell (who shot a 62 on Saturday) three strokes ahead not to mention Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland also likely holding leads over Tiger once they finish their third rounds.

This is the most interesting version of Tiger Woods to me -- the late-in-his-career fighter with an indeterminable amount of juice left in the tank.

What will he do on Sunday? I have no idea.

But I know we'll all be watching.
