The United States wore ties for its final practice round on Friday at the Walker Cup in Southampton, New York. This is, of course, awesome and a throwback to the days of yesteryear. I couldn't be more excited about it -- I just wish they would have done it for one of the days of competition on Saturday or Sunday.

According to this article in USA Today, the decision was a thoughtful one.

"It was back in 1922 in the first Walker Cup when Bob Jones, Chick Evans and Francis Quimet led the U.S. to victory over the team from Great Britain and Ireland at historic National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y.'

So a return not just to the course of the 1920s but to the attire as well.

You'll probably remember that Billy Horschel planned to do the same thing at this year's British Open but failed to make the cut and therefore couldn't.

The other cool thing that happened to the US team is that President George W. Bush gave the squad a visit earlier this week.

The matches will be televised on Golf Channel from 4-6 p.m. ET on both Saturday and Sunday.
