President George W. Bush defended President Obama's golf games earlier this year saying "To be able to get outside and play golf with some of your pals is important for the president."

The 43rd president is taking some of his own advice, apparently. According to this article in the New York Times, Bush has become a "golf-aholic" since his presidency ended in 2009.

"After giving up golf while in office out of deference to troops at war, Mr. Bush has taken it up again. He sometimes plays with the first few people who happen to show up at courses like the Brook Hollow Golf Club or the Las Colinas Country Club, and he built a putting green at home. 'He's a golf-aholic now,' said his friend Charlie Younger."

How cool would it be to be "one of the first people who happen to show up at Brook Hollow or Las Colinas"?

"Oh hey guys, can I get a game?"

"Sure, one of the 21 humans who have ever been President of the US in two different terms, we'd love to have you"

Heck, I live in Dallas, maybe I need to try and sneak on to one of these courses at 6 a.m. in the near future.

President Bush doesn't just play for fun, either.

"Mr. Bush confronts the toll from Iraq and Afghanistan regularly. He spends time with “wounded warriors,” hosting an annual 100-kilometer bicycle ride across the Texas desert and a Warrior Open golf tournament."

Bush also stood in for President Obama as a representative for the recently-completed Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village in Ohio.

The history of golfing US Presidents never ceases to fascinate me. From Dwight Eisenhower at Augusta to JFK in his coral-colored pants taking hacks at Hyannis Port, Mass., the entire lot is endlessly interesting.
