Phil Mickelson has talked a lot about his schedule this offseason but he finally announced this week where he'll get things started.

And it won't be in his home state of California like it usually is. Instead Lefty will kick things off in Abu Dhabi for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January.

He will play the next week on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

This is an event Tiger Woods played last year (one of the events where he had a questionable penalty issue) and Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy will play in 2014.

Jamie Donaldson won the event this year.

I'm interested to see how Mickelson shapes his schedule leading up to the US Open this year. That's really the only tournament on his mind (he's been fairly open about that) and everything he does will be an effort to try and peak as a golfer that week.
