The 2013-2014 PGA Tour season got going early this time around and we're already on the fifth (!) tournament of the season.
Let's do a little Q&A on what to expect from this week's event.
What is it?
McGladrey Classic, the fifth event (of six total) of the fall portion of the 2013-2014 PGA Tour season.
Where is it?
Is Tiger Woods playing?
When is it?
What is the purse?
$5.5 million, $990,000 to the winner.
How can I watch it?
Golf Channel from 1-6 p.m. Eastern Thursday through Sunday.
Who are the former champions?
So who are you picking?
I'm glad you asked. Here are my picks for the McGladrey Classic:
Matt Kuchar (12-1) -- I'm really going out on a limb here, I know. Kuchar also lives in Sea Island and I think the locals will be celebrating a win for him on Sunday evening. Kuchar finished T25 in 2010 in the inaugural tournament and T20 in 2011 before not playing last year. This is his first event of the 2013-14 season and I think he starts this season just like he started last season (extremely hot).
Lock for top 10
Charles Howell III (25-1) -- Howell has played this tournament all three years of its existence and has finished T6, T32, and T7. So if you believe in history (and this year's field is weaker than years past) Howell has a good chance to make some noise on the weekend.
Plus the former Oklahoma State Cowboy is on a bit of a hot streak. He's played three tournaments of the new season and finished in the top seven in two of them. I think he keeps it up this weekend in Georgia.
Davis Love III (150-1) -- I promise I'm not taking Love because he lives here and helps host the tournament. He actually finished T4 last year and T33 in 2010 and talked at the Presidents Cup about how competitive he still is (he wants to make a Ryder Cup team, still!)
He knows the rhythms of this week and this tournament as well as anyone in the field and I'll take a flyer on him at 150-1. If anything he gives you somebody to root for this weekend.
