Thanks, Tiger!

That's what everybody else in golf should be saying in light of Wednesday's announcement that the 2014 PGA Championship and 2014 Players Championship purses will both be $10 million.

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem and PGA of America president Ted Bishop made the joint announcement from the McGladrey Classic.

"This is a major purse increase for the PGA Championship," said Bishop. "With today's announcement, we're certainly excited that the PGA Championship features the highest purse among the four major championships."

Not to be outdone, the widely considered fifth major followed suit.

"For years and years, The Players Championship has been the No. 1 purse in golf. We like that designation," Finchem said. "I'm happy to announce that we will be at $10 million – maybe $10 million and 1 – next spring."

To contextualize this, the purse at all four majors this year was $8 million while the Players Championship purse was $9.5 million.

It'll be interesting to see if the other three majors follow suit.

Normal tournaments -- Wells Fargo Championship, Farmers Insurance Open -- are generally in the $6-7 million range.
