I'm normally ambivalent about athletes and their agents when Jay-Z isn't involved but this Rory McIlroy rumor (that could be its own blog, by the way) is different.

Irish Golf Desk raised the question of whether or not Roger Federer's new sports agency was trying to chase down, and sign, McIlroy.

At first glance it doesn't make a ton of sense given that McIlroy just started his own management company but Brian Keogh explains:

"The recently-formed Rory McIlroy Inc could still remain as the umbrella organisation for all things Rory-related with Federer's man doing some of the heavy lifting."

Federer's agent Tony Godsick is in charge of Team8 (Federer's agency) for the time being but it's pretty clear that Federer will become more heavily involved once his career is over.

"We're trying to be a boutique agency that will manage just a small stable of iconic athletes," said Godsick.

The entire post is pretty compelling though I don't think anything will come of it in the end. Keogh makes the point that McIlroy really looks up to Federer and while that's true I think Rory has had enough of other people managing his affairs.

At least for now.
