Rumor is that Adam Scott is having a little bit of trouble in the "getting females to follow him on the golf course" department so he decided to hire a pro surfer to caddy for him this week at the Sony Open to help out.
Scott gave regular caddie Steve Williams the week off so he could go to the New Zealand Super Saloon Championship and New Zealand Saloon Championships.
"He's old," Scott said jokingly. "One week in a row is enough. He's earned it. I'll let him drive one week, as long as he comes back."
Williams is getting his semi-retirment underway early and thus Scott hired surfer Benji Weatherly (whose figure you see cutting through the waves in the video above) to carry his bag in Hawaii this week.
"I've been on four surf trips with him around the world," said Weatherly
"I'm always here around this time and I saw him in New York a few months ago and he asked if I wanted to caddie and I said, yeah, why not. It's really fun because I love golf, but I've never been this close to a tournament."
Scott got a little pre-tournament surfing in with Weatherly and the famous Kelly Slater on Tuesday. Weatherly said he was impressed.
"He's not scared. The waves were eight feet and pretty big. We went out body surfing. It's pretty neat to get him out there. Kelly Slater was out there, cut some waves for (Adam)."
Weatherly also said he thinks he'll be able to relate to what Scott goes through on the course.
"Golf is the same as surfing — it's just you and you can't blame anyone else. It's you against the elements. I'm going to be like his life coach and try to give him confidence. He's just so good."
Scott, for his part, said Weatherly doesn't need to do much.
"He can carry the bag, that's all I need him to do."
