Here's a little Q&A on what to expect from this week's Humana Challenge.

What is it?

The Humana Challenge is the first tournament of 2014 in the contiguous United States. It's the ninth (!) tournament of the 2013-14 season.

Where is it?

La Quinta, Cali. and Palm Desert, Cali.

Wait, two different places?

Yes, and three different courses. PGA West Palmer course, PGA West Nicklaus course, and La Quinta Country Club.

When is it?

January 16-19, 2014

What is the purse?

$5.7 million

How can I watch it?

Thursday, Jan. 16 - Sunday, Jan. 19 -- 3-7 PM on Golf Channel

All times Eastern

Who's playing?

Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, Webb Simpson, Harris English, Keegan Bradley, Bill Haas, Rickie Fowler, and Billy Horschel are the most prominent names.

Will Horschel wear octopus pants?

I hope so.

Who are the former champions?

2013 -- Brian Gay
2012 -- Mark Wilson
2011 -- Jhonattan Vegas
2010 -- Bill Haas
2009 -- Pat Perez

Where's Tiger?

Tiger Woods will make his debut at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines next weekend.

So who are you picking?

I'm glad you asked. Here are my picks for the Humana Challenge (I'm 0-2 so far this year on winners, 2-0 on top 10s, and 0-2 on sleepers):

Charles Howell III (28-1) -- Every year seems like the one he's going to get to three career wins but it's been since 2007 since he's won a tournament.

He lost in a playoff here last year, though, and finished T13 in 2012 so he knows this tournament well. He's off to a spectacular start with four top 10 finishes already this season. I expect that to continue at Humana.

Lock for top 10

Brian Stuard (50-1) -- Stuard has only played this tournament once but it was a T10 in 2013. He finished sixth at the Sony Open last week and is 17th on Tour in scoring average.

It will take a super low score to win here (the worst winning score since 1976 is 17 under) and Stuard knows how to do that.

Jason Bohn (80-1) -- Has made four straight cuts at this tournament and finished T3 at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba at the end of 2013. He probably won't win but seems to be good value at 80-1 in this spot.
