Take a break from the Richard Sherman debate and let's jump into what was a pretty eventful week of golf.

If you missed the last week in golf, here's a summary ...

Top three stories

1. The Phil Mickelson Experience: It is unrivaled in sports. He almost missed the cut in Abu Dhabi, then shot a tournament-best 63 on Saturday, then came unraveled on Sunday with a triple bogey on the back nine in which he tried to hit a ball right-handed. Golf is never boring with Lefty around.

2. Rory McIlroy does his best Tiger Woods impression: McIlroy took the fewest strokes of any golfer at the Abu Dhabi Championship but a bad drop and ensuing two-stroke penalty kept him from victory. Just like his mentor.

3. Patrick Reed makes all of the birdies: Stateside, Reed set a new 54-hole PGA Tour scoring record by getting to 27 under over the first three rounds at the Humana Challenge. His last round was a mess but he eventually went on to win by two over Ryan Palmer.

Strangest story

John Daly thought he won a car for making a hole-in-one in the Humana Challenge pro-am and then it was taken away because the shot came on his second ball.

Champion profiles

Pablo Larrazabal won for the third time in his career on the European Tour. The four golfers who have been runners-up to him in those three tournaments? Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy.

Patrick Reed joined Harris English and Rory McIlroy as the only two golfers on the PGA Tour under the age of 25 with multiple wins.

Best shot

This is Pablo Larrazabal to basically win the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Worst shot

Oh, yeah, it's not even close.

Scorecard of the week

Just look at all these birdies from Patrick Reed:

Final count...

Birdies: 32
Eagles: 2
Bogeys: 6
Pars: 32

Best break

How lucky can this guy be?

Coolest phone call

How awesome is this?

Best celebration

It just keeps getting better and better.

Best quote

"You know me, I've done some crazy shit in my career." -- Phil Mickelson after double-hitting a ball right-handed that cost him the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Best quote (Part II)

"Almost seems like I'm in a putting coma." -- Patrick Reed after his third straight 63 at the Humana Challenge.

The winner gets ...

Patrick Reed took home $1.03 million for winning the Humana Challenge.
Pablo Larrazabal took home $445,561 for winning the Abu Dhabi Championship.

Stat of the week

It's Jan. 20 and there are already nine golfers who have topped the $1 million mark on the PGA Tour this season (which for the first time started in October). From 1968 (when the PGA Tour moved away from the PGA) to 1992 there were nine total.

Golfer you need to get familiar with

Not to go overboard on this Pablo Larrazabal stuff but if the season ended today Larrazabal would finish two spots outside of an automatic nod for the 2014 European Ryder Cup team. He has about nine months to rectify that.

Celeb sighting

Bill Clinton was all over the place at the Humana Challenge.

Overachiever

Pablo Larrazabal was 100-1 to win the Abu Dhabi Championship. Not only did he win, but he bested Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy to do it.

Underachiever

Henrik Stenson was 7-1 to win the Abu Dhabi Championship and he missed the cut.

Wait, he's still playing?

Justin Leonard (!) finished T3 at the Humana Challenge by going 25 under, his best finish since 2011.

Best of Twitter

Rory McIlroy after accidentally stepping in an illegal drop zone and receiving a two-stroke penalty.

Bo Van Pelt after Patrick Reed's third straight 63.
