Jack Nicklaus turns 74 on this Tuesday, the eve of what feels like the actual golf season kicking off at Torrey Pines this week with Tiger Woods teeing it up for the first time this year.
But either way, that's a ton of money for somebody 43 years old to be making, much less Nicklaus' age.
The crazy part is what Tiger Woods is projected to be making per year at that age if you look back at what Nicklaus was making at Tiger's current age.
As a 38-year-old, Nicklaus made $280,000 on the course. If you use a 6-to-1 off-the-course to on-the course earnings ratio Woods had last year then we can conclude that Nicklaus was making about about $2 million at that age.
Obviously these numbers are likely off by a lot as endorsements weren't as valuable back then and who knows if that 6-to-1 ratio even holds up.
But if you multiple Tiger's $83 million number at the age of 38 by 13 (the difference between $2 million and $26 million) that means Woods will be raking in $1.1 billion per year when he's Nicklaus' age.
Now that would be insane.
