Clint Eastwood, American hero, and now a hero to Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament director Steve John.

The two were attending a party on Wednesday night when John choked on a piece of cheese and Eastwood had to perform the Heimlich maneuver.

"I was drinking water and eating these little appetizers, threw down a piece of cheese and it just didn't work," John said. "I was looking at him and couldn't breathe. He recognized it immediately and saved my life."

Eastwood has been a stalwart at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am for years.

He told the Carmel Pine Cone he knew right away John was in trouble.

"I looked in his eyes and saw that look of panic people have when they see their life passing before their eyes," Eastwood said. "It looked bad."

It could have been a lot worse if not for Eastwood.
