Raymond Floyd is no stranger to the Ryder Cup.

Floyd played on eight Ryder Cup teams for the US (most recently in 1993), was the captain in 1989 when the Europeans retained the Cup with 14 points, and was an assistant captain in 2008 which is the last time the US won.

On Tuesday Tom Watson tabbed Floyd as one of his assistants, joining Andy North.

Floyd said he's ecstatic to be named an assistant captain.

"I'm flattered, obviously, and it's going to be a thrill for me to have his back," Floyd said. "I think it'll be a lot of fun."

And Watson is confident in Floyd's ability to lead.

"What Raymond brings here is his experience and the respect of the players," Watson said. "When these players look at Raymond, they know he's been there, they know he's been successful, and they know he wants to win. I don't really need anything else."

I can't handle eight more months of waiting for this.
