Rory McIlroy had an answer for his own first-round 63 on Friday and the response was resounding.

It was a second-round 4-under 66 that included a back-nine 31 and moved him to 11 under for the tournament. He led by four over Lee Westwood at the time he finished on Friday.

According to Justin Ray of ESPN nobody has ever been at 10 under or better through the first two rounds of the Honda Classic since it moved to PGA National in in 2007.

McIlroy stepped through that door with a fury this year.

Furthermore, only two scores better than 10 under have ever been posted for the entire tournament at PGA National (Camilo Villegas at 13 under in 2010 and, yep, Rory McIlroy at 12 under in 2012).

Here's a look at McIlroy's card from today (he started on the back nine):

McIlroy was less precise with his irons on Friday but his putter was scorching. After that bogey-bogey start he made birdie putts of 12 feet, 27 feet, and 29 feet as the morning wore on. It was a throwback to his spurts in 2011 and 2012 when he made it seem like he was capable of never losing.

Here's one of those long birdies:

Of course there's still a ton of golf left and McIlroy most recently led the Dubai Desert Classic after 36 holes only to lose that tournament by four strokes.

He told Golf Channel he lost that on the weekend because he was pressing.

"I tried too hard," said McIlroy. "Not even just the last day but the weekend, because I had started well in the tournament, I felt like I should have been further ahead and I tried a little bit too hard."

That's a weakness McIlroy seems to grapple with often, though. He's great so he presses. It should always come easy but sometimes it doesn't.

"Finding his groove" McIlroy is fun, though. He's as talented as they come and who doesn't like to watch greatness on big stages?

It will be interesting to see if anyone can catch him on a soggy Friday at PGA National and, if not, who will be close going to the weekend.

Because it's starting to look like this is Rory's tournament to lose.
