Tiger Woods could lose No. 1 ranking at Cadillac Championship

The hits keep on coming for the newly-injured Tiger Woods.

After walking off the course on Sunday at the Honda Classic with back spasms, Woods is undecided about defending his title this week at the Cadillac Championship at Doral.

What's not undecided, however, is that no matter whether Woods plays or not, he could lose his position as the world's No. 1 player.

Who could take it over? That would be world No. 2 and defending Masters champion, Adam Scott.

Ryan Lavner of Golf Channel has the gory details. You can view all the details on his post but here's an overview:

"Adam Scott likely would move to world No. 1 for the first time in his career if he wins this week's WGC-Cadillac Championship and Woods finishes outside the top 5-7, according to Golf Channel world-rankings guru Alan Robison."

I think being No. 1 probably matters to Woods more than he lets on which is just one of many reasons I think he was legitimately injured at the Honda Classic.

Woods doesn't just WD events (six in 297 on the PGA Tour as a pro) and plus, if he was going to pull out, he would have done it on the front nine after shooting a 40, not after three straight pars and just six holes left in his tournament.

We should know something soon on whether or not he'll play Doral.
