Tiger Woods likely to set new record for futility before Masters

Tiger Woods more than likely won't play again before heading to Augusta in three weeks and if he doesn't he will set a new record for financial futility in the lead up to the 2014 Masters.

Of course Woods could care less about these numbers because he's wealthy beyond belief but they paint a grim picture for what the world No. 1 has done so far this season.

As you can see in the graphic below, the $86,000 is the least he's ever earned pre-Masters when playing in actual PGA Tour events (in 2010 he sat out until Augusta).

Tiger Woods money earned before the Masters

Woods averages making $1.8 million before the Masters with a high of $3.8 million in 2013.

As we looked at last week, none of this necessarily affects how he plays this tournament but it's worth noting the inconsistency of his last five years.

He was just dialed in to his Masters tune-ups from 2000-2008 but since then it's been all over the place.

Kind of like his game right now.
