Phil Mickelson withdrew from the Texas Open on Saturday after 11 holes with an apparent strained oblique, according to his caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay.

Mickelson barely made the cut after making a birdie from the water on his final hole on Friday. He noted after that how great he had been feeling all week. That flipped during the third round.

Mickelson released a statement after his round.

"My back's feeling great, my body's been feeling great," Mickelson said. "I felt as good as I have all year. My speed is back, I was hitting the ball hard, driving it great. I pulled a muscle on my downswing trying to hit the ball hard on the second hole [his 11th]. It just killed and it wouldn't subside for 10 or 12 seconds.

"I'm going to go back to San Diego for a couple of days and have a doctor take a look at it but there's really not much you can do for a pulled muscle. I hope I'll be OK to play the [Shell Houston Open] but I just don't know."

The bigger news is what this will do for Mickelson's Masters hopes. He and Tiger Woods are limping to Augusta -- figuratively and now literally -- and that's not what anyone wants to see.
