Jack Nicklaus knows a thing or two about not missing majors.

The Golden Bear went from 1957 to 1998 without missing a major for which he was eligible to play in.

That's right, 154 straight.

But back to Woods. Nicklaus said on Tuesday that he was bummed Woods would miss the Masters (if you had "Nicklaus will hit more shots at Augusta than Tiger in 2014" in Vegas, congrats).

"I am sorry to hear that Tiger will miss the Masters Tournament," said Nicklaus. "I know Tiger has been working very hard to return to form, and as I have said many times, Tiger has a lot of years of good golf ahead of him."

I thikn he's correct about that.

"I hate to see him robbed of some of that time by injury. But we all know he is doing what is in the best interest of his health and future. I wish him well on a speedy recovery."

Part of me wonders if deep down Nicklaus isn't a bit relieved about the events of the past half-decade. Nobody wants their records broken and nobody is more competitive than Nicklaus.

Plus, as Nicklaus said at the end of 2013, this isn't going the right direction.

"Each time you don't win, obviously, makes it harder," said Nicklaus.

He's certainly not rooting for injury but I bet he doesn't hate the respect his 18 majors is suddenly receiving.
