Ian Poulter took an errant penalty drop at the China Open on Friday which I don't care much about because, as you'll see, it led to something much better.
Here's a short summary from Golf Channel:
"According to the Associated Press, Poulter had to take a drop on the par-5 13th after his ball landed in some dense foliage. Poulter took two club lengths for his drop, but that put him on the cart path. Poulter took another two club lengths from there, but the Rules of Golf only allow one club length. Poulter was penalized two strokes but still made the cut."
The real story is that Poulter went on Twitter after his round and held a contest for his fans to try and draw a photo of the drop.
Which led to this, which almost killed me:
And then this (which was also funny):
I have no idea who won the contest or if a winner was ever chosen -- it's not clear on his Twitter feed -- but this is why we all love Ian Poulter (except for during the Ryder Cup).
