I don't know that Tiger Woods literally circled the British Open on his calendar -- maybe he had his agent Mark Steinberg do it -- but that's the tournament Woods is targeting for his return, according to Golf Channel.

"While Tiger Woods has not yet set a timetable for his return to competition, Golf Channel sources indicate that fans could see the world No. 1 back in action in July."

"Sources tell Golf Channel that Woods is targeting a return at the Open Championship, which will be held July 17-20 at Royal Liverpool."

The scene of Woods' last crime at the Open happened at Liverpool in 2006 (it's crazy to think it has been that long since he won a British Open).

Personally I find it hard to believe that the British Open -- a place awash in crazy long rough and often awkward lies -- would be the spot of a man nursing balky back to health would return to play, but maybe that's just me.

Either way it's pretty clear Woods is going to miss the US Open in June.
