The 1997 Ryder Cup was the first ever contested in Continental Europe -- it took place at Valderrama Golf Club in Sotogrande, Spain and Europe won 14.5 to 13.5.

It was tightly contested, however, and memorable because Seve Ballesteros got to captain Team Europe in his home country.

Recently, a Ryder Cup trophy made for Jamie Ortiz-Patino who was the course designer at Valderrama sold for $34,375.

According to the auction "this trophy, custom-made for Ortiz-Patino to commemorate the tournament at Valderrama in 1997, is inscribed at its base, ''Ryder Cup 1997 / Valderrama."

Pretty cool.

What's even cooler -- and the trophy I would want if you could make a trophy out of it -- is the Tom Lehman leap at the 1:35 mark of that video.
