After an abysmal opening round 77 Adam Scott reponded beautifully with a 67 on Friday and a real chance to make the cut.
"I don't think I played that much better than yesterday to be honest," said Scott. Hopefully it will be good enough to play the next few days. If not it will be disappointing."
It was enough in the end. The cut line at the time Scott finished was 1 under and moved ti even by the end of the day. Scott has a decent chance to backdoor into the top 16 which would give him that world No. 1 ranking.
Jordan Spieth (11 under): The kid is crushing. I covered it more over here but he has a real chance to take the leap to superstardom this weekend at Sawgrass.
Sergio Garcia (6 under): It's not really a surprise that he's playing well, nor will a Saturday or Sunday meltdown on No. 17 be, either. Especially after this (the golf gods will have their revenge):
Justin Rose (6 under): Rose, Garcia, and Lee Westwood all shot 67-71 in their first two rounds. Good, but not elite. They'll all have work to do to get wins this weekend.
Rickie Fowler (1 under): Fowler will play the weekend at Sawgrass after a second-round 72 in which you may have had to adjust your television screen multiple times.
Rory McIlroy (E): McIlroy sneaked into the weekend with a birdie at the last. That's all he's done of late, though. All about the back door.
Phil Mickelson (CUT): All I can think is that he's saving every single shot left in his arsenal for Pinehurst. That's the only feasible explanation for his struggles.
