By Mike Singer | CBSSports.com

European Tour officials said that caddie Iain MacGregor died after suffering a heart attack during the final day of the Madeira Open.

MacGregor, 52, was caddying for Alastair Forsyth of Scotland before he collapsed on the ninth fairway.

“It is with great sadness and deep regret that we report the untimely passing of Iain MacGregor during play on the final day of the Madeira Islands Open,” the European Tour said in a statement.

All parties held a moment of silence to honor MacGregor before ultimately resuming play.

"Following consultation with the players and the caddies involved, it has been decided that play should continue and the tournament should finish," the statement said.

A few players shared their condolences following the Zimbabwean's passing.
