Whose Career: Martin Kaymer or Jim Furyk?

Let's play a little game I started called "whose career would you rather have?" (Previously named "who will have more wins?") Here are the rules: Pick two guys, count their total PGA Tour/European Tour wins and majors and whatever else they do on the course, and argue about who will have had a better career when all is said and done.

This week: Martin Kaymer and Jim Furyk.

Let's get to it.

Martin Kaymer

29 years old
10 European Tour wins
2 PGA Tour wins
1 major (PGA Championship)
10 top 10s in majors
2 Ryder Cups
Highest ranking: No. 1

Are we sort of underrating Martin Kaymer's career to this point?

As Alex Myers pointed out the list of golfers who have won a WGC event, a major, a Players Championship, and been No. 1 in the world is two people:

Tiger Woods...and Kaymer.

And he's not even 30.

With his new swing and boatloads of confidence going forward it's not crazy to think he could pick up 5-6 more PGA Tour wins, another handful of European Tour wins, another few Ryder Cups, and maybe a major.

Jim Furyk

44 years old
0 European Tour wins
16 PGA Tour wins
1 major (US Open)
20 top 10s in majors
8 Ryder Cups
Highest ranking: No. 2

He could really use that other US Open to take down this argument. Those 16 PGA Tour wins are no joke and neither are eight Ryder Cups. What does he have left, though? Probably 2-3 wins, maybe a major? One Ryder Cup? Two? This is, barring another major, essentially his careeer's resume. Not that it's a bad one.

This is rough. People will laugh and point at Kaymer's two PGA Tour wins but when you're winning 10 times in Europe plus a WGC event, I mean, that's not a joke. I'll go Kaymer if only because I think he gets one more major and Furyk doesn't.

Happy arguing.
