Adam Scott is the 17th golfer ever to ascend to No. 1 in the world

The coolest cat in golf is now also, on paper anyway, its top dog.

Adam Scott ascended to No. 1 in the world on Monday in the Official World Golf Rankings, taking the throne from Tiger Woods who had been there for 60 straight weeks.

Scott, who is playing this week, said at the Players Championship that he thinks more about playing tournaments well than he does about being No. 1.

"I hope I'm keeping myself in a similar kind of position for awhile," said Scott. "But I haven't really thought about it too much. I'm really just into the process of trying to get my game better all the time. Pretty much wins takes care of all the rankings and all the questions..."

He is only the 17th golfer to ever be No. 1 since the rankings started in 1983 and the second Australian. He's also the 11th to do it in a week in which he wasn't playing:
