Keegan Bradley used a non-anchored putter for the first time in competition on Thursday at the Memorial since the anchored putter ban was announced.

He did quite well with it, too, shooting a 5-under 67, just a stroke off the early lead.

And it was his mom who encouraged him to put it in the bag.

Here's a look.

So what kind of flat stick is it? Jonathan Wall with more.

Earlier this season Bradley said he wasn't very concerned about the ban, which won't go into place until the start of 2016.

To be honest with you, I'm not that worried about it," said Bradley. "A lot of people think I will be [upset by the pending ban], but I feel fine.

"It's disappointing, but the USGA makes the rules, so we've got to follow them," Bradley said, "I'll be working every day [of the] offseason, trying to work something in."

Or, apparently, sooner than that.

There's more to the story, though. Apparently Bradley played a couple of rounds with Michael Jordan (see the shoes above) with the putter.

Nothing like getting taunted by the best basketball player ever to get you fired up for the Memorial Tournament.
