Rory McIlroy played Pinehurst No. 2 for the first time on Monday and said he was thrilled to play it.
"I loved what I saw, I really did," said McIlroy. "I think some guys are going to be surprised by the look of the golf course from what it was back in '05 and '99 but for me it's new and I don't know any different."
He apparently played like he'd been doing it forever.
Four of those babies next week and he'll be hoisting his second US Open trophy in four years.
But beware of that second round:
Rory McIlroy's 2014 PGA Tour Scoring Rank: Round 1: 1st (68.29) Round 2: 183rd (72.86) Round 3: 46th (70.00) Round 4: 12th (69.57)— Jamie Kennedy (@jamieonsport) May 30, 2014
I was also intrigued by the fact that McIlroy noted that it won't be the normal chipping out of the rough if you hit in there. That you'd have a "50-50" chance of getting out.
That'll make for some interesting decision making (looking at you, Lefty) in a week's time.
