Since the United States Open started keeping strokes to par in the 1930 championship there have been 80 US Opens contested (four years were lost to World War II).

In that time we've seen a lot of different winning scores.

There have been a few outliers -- Rory McIlroy in 2011, Tiger Woods in 2000, Sam Parks, Jr. in 1935 to name a few -- but for the most part we know what we're going to get at an Open.

The course will be nasty, the greens will be lightning, and the players will be pissed.

Here's a look at the distribution of scores throughout the years:

That 11 over belongs to the aforementioned Parks, Jr. who won the 1935 version at Oakmont with an amazing run of 77-73-73-76 in his four rounds. Six golfers in the top 10 that year had a round of 79 or worse.

The cut that year was 17 over!

The most common winning score is 4 under, most recently by Lucas Glover at Bethpage Black in 2009.

Strangely 6 over has never won a US Open but 7 over has won four of them.

In 1999 Payne Stewart was 1 under at Pinehurst and in 2005 Michael Campbell finished at even par. If I'm a betting man (I'm not) I'm betting 1 under will win this year's rough-less event.
