Phil Mickelson was back doing Phil Mickelson things at the St. Jude Classic on Thursday.
Lefty shot an opening-round 67 that included the most Mickelsonian flop shot ever (see above). He made five birdies and just two bogeys on his way to 3 under on his first day.
His round included some holes we're used to from Phil:
First Phil phun of the day: pulls tee shot into tree about 180 yards from 15th tee. Hits180-yard approach over water to 14 feet. Misses.— Sean Martin (@PGATOURSMartin) June 5, 2014
Play was suspended in the middle of the first round due to bad weather but Phil seemed pleased with his day which, let's be honest, is nothing more than a warmup for the main event next week at the US Open.
"Finishing the round the way I did, that's exactly what I need to do and some momentum that I need heading into the US Open," said Mickelson.
