Rickie Fowler made the move of the day with these Payne Stewart-inspired knickers and went out and backed it up with a first-round 70.

Here he is explaining why the whole thing came about.

"For me Payne was one of my all-time favorite players," said Fowler. "It's cool to be able to be in the position I'm in to wear some attire of what he used to wear and give a little tribute to him. Definitely a special day."

He also said only his family, some close buds, and the folks at Puma knew what was going to happen.

"Probably 10 people actually knew that I was going to wear this today."

He also joked that it's been a while since his legs have seen pleats.

"Last time I wore pleats was probably in the Walker Cup. I was forced to."
