Martin Kaymer posted his second-straight 65 on Friday and it feels like everyone else is playing for runner-up at this point. There's still a long way to go on Saturday but this thing is starting to feel historic.

We followed all of Kaymer's round and plenty of other action -- including an amazing moment from Miguel Angel Jimenez and the car wreck that was Phil Mickelson's round.

Here's a recap of the entire second day of action at Pinehurst.

6:53 PM: Okay, let's call it a day here. NBC gets its dream Saturday final pairing of Martin Kaymer and Brendon Todd. All the German beers for all of you tonight.

6:49 PM: And there it is.

6:41 PM: We're here, people. This is where we are.

6:26 PM: I do hope we get Spieth/Kaymer Part II. That would be glorious.

6:11 PM: I think we're at the "just link Dan Jenkins tweets for the rest of the round" portion of the tournament.

6:03 PM: This is so awesome. Kudos to our friends at SB Nation.

6:02 PM: Matt Kuchar played two different balls on the sixth hole because he doesn't know if he grounded his club before the ball moved. This should end well.

5:50 PM: Executives at NBC are going to have a fun night out on the town when they look up and realize their final pairing on Saturday is going to be Martin Kaymer up by six on Brendon Todd. Weee!

5:49 PM: Wowza.

5:16 PM: Kevin Kisner just asked his dad to come out of the gallery to caddie the last few holes for him. He's 11 over for the tournament so it's not like it's going to go worse.

5:01 PM: Here's the most exciting thing that's happened this afternoon and the best thing to happen to Spain all day.

4:34 PM: Martin Kaymer in 2014 = Tiger Woods in 2000? Maybe so.

4:11 PM: Here's the new leaderboard. Kevin Na is running away with this thing!

3:52 PM: Finally got some lunch. This lead might make me lose it soon

3:27 PM: How about Finebaum from off the top rope?!

3:10 PM: This is epic.

2:45 PM: Miguel is on the course. All is well in the golf world.

2:43 PM: Hah, this made me laugh.

2:09 PM: How much do we think Mickelson's belts weigh? They have to weigh like 19 pounds each, don't they?

1:44 PM: This is my favorite moment of the US Open so far.

1:17 PM: I hope this isn't lost.

1:11 PM: A second-straight 65 from Martin Kaymer. The two best rounds ever at a US Open at Pinehurst. He's up eight.

1:00 PM: ESPN said Bubba Watson is giving Marcel Siem fashion advice. Nice.

12:44 PM: This is really our only hope.

12:30 PM: Dustin Johnson just shot 69-69 at a freaking US Open and he's down eight. Eight!

12:26 PM: This is a fox squirrel and it is amazing (via Getty Images).

12:15 PM: I'm not afraid. This tournament is over.

12:11 PM: This is insanity.

11:59 AM: Speaking of slams, if Kaymer wins this, the British, and the PGA to add to his Players Championship, is that like an inside-the-park Grand Slam?

11:58 AM: I almost forgot Phil Mickelson was going for the career slam with what Kaymer is doing.

11:46 AM: Dustin Johnson just missed a 30-inch putt and it barely touched the lip. It was hideous.

11:35 AM: I'm pretty sure Paul Azinger just said the following about a Brendon de Jonge putt: "he gutted it."

11:34 AM: Dan Jenkins, yep, still the GOAT.

11:23 AM: Welp.

11:18 AM: This thing is almost over.

11:10 AM: Kevin Stadler just holed out from the fairway for eagle. It was awesome.

10:55 AM: Paul Azinger sounds like he's either talking about a Brazilian model or a thoroughbred horse here. Nope, just talking about Martin Kaymer.

10:52 AM: Tweet of the day so far.

10:41 AM: Hunter Mahan and Jamie Donaldson just hit each other's balls on the 18th fairway. That's incredible.

10:32 AM: Martin Kaymer has put together nine holes of 34-31-32. That's going to get the job done at a US Open, I think.

10:14 AM: Bummer -- Scott Van Pelt's last day of the US Open. Not a bummer -- Chris Berman's last day of the US Open (probably ever).

10:03 AM: You need to check out Shane Ryan's infographic on the second-round pins.

9:55 AM: Kaymer gets to 8 under. Yawn.

9:45 AM: Fran Quinn is 4 under and alone in second. The US Open is the best.

9:33 AM: Ken Duke just hit it behind a bush, punched it left-handed about three feet into a bunker, and holed the bunker shot for a three. US Open golf, baby.

Here's a look:

9:23 AM: Martin Kaymer just canned a 10-footer for par. Am I the only one who's going to be bored this weekend if he shoots another 65 today?

9:08 AM: Jungle Bird ain't getting in the US Open this year.

9:02 AM: Here are all the golfers with a US Open, PGA Championship, and Players Championship. Kaymer would ne No. 5.

8:56 AM: Cool photo here.

8:30 AM: Martin Kaymer birdies the first. This could get away from us in a hurry.

8:04 AM: I'm headed back to Starbucks to see if they can top off my 12 hours of live blogging golf-sized coffee cup. I'll be back shortly. Hopefully to some carnage.

8:03 AM: Also, is anyone concerned about this?

8:01 AM: Here's something to keep in mind when you're watching Round 2. Right now this includes zero golfers as Kaymer is three ahead:
