One of the best football-playing golfers in the world has basically given up the sport.

"It's been awhile," Tony Romo told the Dallas Morning News. "Almost a year and a half."

Why hasn't Romo, who once went through local qualifying for the US Open, not played in 18 months?

Two back surgeries -- one in April of 2013 and one in December -- are a large part of it.

"Sometimes you put yourself in a tough position when coming off a surgery," Romo said. "That's why we have a pitch count with me throwing and why we do it that way."

"You've got to get yourself healthy then figure out where you're at and go from there for everything," Romo said. "It's not just golf. It's a way you live life.

"I don't think about it as [giving up] golf. It's just life. You want to give yourself the best chance to succeed on the football field."

Somehow, I'm sure, him giving up golf will be blamed for him blowing whichever is the first game he blows this football season.
