Let's give a little credit where a little credit is due. We spend enough time bemoaning golf organizations that we must tip our caps when they do something awesome like the R&A did on Tuesday.

What did they do?

They extended Tom Watson's five-year exemption from finishing second at the 2009 British Open through 2015 so that he could play in one more Open at St. Andrews.

"Some of my finest memories in golf have come from playing in the Open Championship," said Watson, who has won this tournament five times.

"I am very proud and honoured to be given this opportunity to play once again in St Andrews next year. It is a special place for everyone in golf..."

Then he joked that me might just pull a 2009 and qualify for five more of these things.

"There's something very special about me being able to finish out my British Open career, unless I play and finish in the top 10 (at Hoylake) and have the opportunity to play more Open championships."

Golf claps for everyone.
