A special British Open edition of The Links.

British Amateur champ thinks he can win the British Open: "I see the Open as my best chance. Best chance of winning it. The pros don't play much links golf and, while they can adapt, I've had to play these imaginative shots all year." (BBC)

Phil Mickelson on the two clubs he's bringing out this week: "I have two clubs that are specific to this tournament. One is a 2-iron and the other is a 64-degree wedge that has very little bounce. Basically, I put them away after this event and then bring them back out in July again." (The Open)

Mo Martin on her crazy 18th hole at the Women's British Open: "When it was rolling on the ground, I said, 'Sit!' And then I said, 'Go!' And it looked perfect, so I didn't have anything more to say. I heard it hit the pin from the fairway. That was a pretty fun feeling." (NYT)

Colin Montgomerie on winning the US Senior Open in a playoff: "You talk about the Ryder Cup and one-on-one - I'm usually quite good. A play-off in a golf tournament is like a penalty shootout in the World Cup. You don't know what's going to happen." (BBC)

Dan Jenkins ends his majors attended streak at 179. (Twitter)

On and off the course, one way or another, Harry Vardon inspired most of today's golf's culture, notably with his six British Open titles that remain an unmatched monument 100 years later. (NYT)

Jordan Spieth wanted to hit his approach into the bunker on No. 18 at the John Deere Classic: "When it actually went onto the green, I said 'Man, I wanted to hit that bunker shot again.' That would have been fun with the crowd." (PGA Tour)

Tom Watson on Tiger and the Ryder Cup: "But then the caveat is if he doesn't get into the FedExCup, what to do then? And that's the question I can't answer right now." (Guardian)

How many times has Phil Mickelson said this in his career? "I believe the next five years are going to be some of the best of my career." (BBC)

Here's a cool look at the last 125 years of British Opens. Don't worry, it only covers the anniversaries (100 years, 50 years, etc.) (NYT)

Bones on why he and Phil Mickelson have lasted so long: "Phil is not a blamer. He knows no one is rooting for him harder out there than I am. So if I make a mistake or he makes a mistake, it doesn't matter. He takes it all on himself." (NYT)
