Tiger Woods got off to a tough start with bogeys at the first two holes but he held things steady with some long par putts and got a chance to get one back at No. 5 with the birdie putt you see above.
He buried that to get back to 1 over for the tournament thru five holes.
Is that a concern? Maybe -- mostly because some of his short stuff has looked horrific -- but as multiple folks pointed out on Twitter, Woods didn't play the first few holes at Hoylake particularly well when he won back in 2006, either.
Tiger was + 2 on the first three holes but in '06 he played them +3 for the week -- and shot -14 for tourney. #TheOpen— Bob Harig (@BobHarig) July 17, 2014
For him it's all about the par 5s and the back nine.
