John Singleton is a factory worker who qualified for the 2014 British Open this year -- which is the coolest story in and of itself -- and it just got even better.
Singleton stepped to the first tee, asked the crowd to give him a little roar (Ryder Cup-style), walked up to his ball, had to back off because somebody in the crowd coughed (or he was so nervous he couldn't stand up), then murdered his first tee shot down the middle of the fairway.
Curtis Strange said it well on the ESPN broadcast.
"You cannot put into words what he felt, almost uncontrollable, and he smoked it."
That he did.
It was as splendid a moment as you'll see on the first day of the tournament.
