There were times during the 2014 British Open that it looked like not only would Rory McIlroy not lose that tournament, he might never lose again.

That's obviously not the case but I did want to take a look and see if British Open success portends PGA Championship success a few weeks later.

They are the two closest majors to each other and some folks think Rory (who is the favorite) has the perfect game for Valhalla.

With that in mind here are how the last 10 British Open winners fared at that year's PGA Championship.

2013: Phil Mickleson -- T72
2012: Ernie Els -- T48
2011: Darren Clarke -- Cut
2010: Louis Oosthuizen -- Cut
2009: Stewart Cink -- T67
2008: Padraig Harrington -- Won
2007: Padraig Harrington -- T42
2006: Tiger Woods -- T4
2005: Tiger Woods -- Won
2004: Ben Curtis -- T37

There hasn't been much recent success but if you go back a few years you can see how the British Open is nice foreshadowing for the PGA Championship.

At least Rory McIlroy hopes it will be.
