Jason Dufner withdrew from the 2014 PGA Championship after nine holes on Thursday. He shot a 40 on the front nine and then called it a day with bulging discs in his neck.

Here's a look at his scorecard:

Dufner looked pretty dejected as he walked off but not nearly as dejected as I'm sure Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson looked. In the last two weeks he's watched Dustin Johnson take a leave of absence, Matt Kuchar withdraw from the PGA Championship with a bad back, Tiger Woods struggle, and now this from Dufner.

There was a bit of foreshadowing from The Duf earlier in the week so this wasn't a total surprise.

"I'm probably not going to be healthy until I can take six to eight weeks off," said Dufner. Not sure when that's going to be. But I'll get through it."

He was trying to make a go of it, though, as any defending champion should.

He said after his round, though, that he was done until he's healthy.

"I'll play golf again when I'm healthy," Dufner said. "That could be at The Barclays, that could be next year, that could be 2016. I refuse to be out here and not be healthy and not give myself a chance to be competitive."

Viva the Ryder Cup!
