The first day of the 2014 PGA Championship was certainly eventful and filled with tons of scoring. Tiger Woods went out early and Rory McIlroy came home late -- they ended with vastly different scores.

Here's everything you need to know about the first round of the 2014 PGA Championship.

1. Rory McIlroy cruised: The Ulsterman threw it in cruise control after a 7-5 start to his back nine. Five birdies coming home and it could have been seven.

The tournament is his to lose.

2. Tiger Woods did the opposite of cruise: A 74 by Tiger and he's getting beat by Colin Montgomerie, Tom Watson, and not one but two (!) club pros.

His game is off the rails, as I'm sure you can tell (language NSFW!):

3. Conditions were kind of easy: Don't take my word for it, though.

4. So many injuries: One of the biggest stories of the first day was the WDs from Jason Dufner (neck) and Matt Kuchar (back). This has PGA Championship implications, for sure, but when coupled with Dustin Johnson's sabbatical and Tiger's general ineptitude, the Ryder Cup is looking quite bleak.

This bleak, even:

5. Bubba Watson was back at it on Thursday:

After being lost in the woods for multiple holes on the front nine Watson went on to ask his caddie Ted Scott to stop telling the TV folks what club he was using which is about the most Bubba Watson thing you could possibly do at this point.

6. Middle-class stars: There's an interesting amalgamation of nearly-superstars hovering around (or holding) the lead. I'm intrigued to see which one of Jim Furyk, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter, and Jason Day grabs the tournament by the throat (that is if McIlroy doesn't slit it first).

7. Two things on your co-leader: First, this is only the second time Lee Westwood has led or co-led after the first round of a major. Second, this is the first 65 at a PGA Championship with a double bogey since Phil Mickelson did it in 2005.

8. This Ryan Palmer Vine made me laugh the most: Turn the volume up.

9. Tom Watson continues to be a boss: Here's the list of stars Watson, who shot 71, beat on Thursday:

Tiger Woods
Graeme McDowell
Webb Simpson
Brandt Snedeker
Harris English
Ryan Moore

The scary part is how many names Watson is probably choosing from to play for the US' Ryder Cup team.

10. This was your shot of the day: A 97-foot putt from a club pro (Johan Kok)? Yeah, give it to me.
